10/7/23 *** In God We Trust

Unlike Micheal Shermer, I am a believer.  I did become an atheist for a while but I felt hollow.  Also, no matter what, there is an invisible hand that pulls me back on track.

To me, it is God without Religion.  Religion is stuck with rituals and ceremonies to present to God.  As if God prefers a facade over plain reality.

I am not an expert on rituals and ceremonies, Joseph Campbell is a more appropriate person to talk about this.  To me, it is part entertainment and part storytelling.  It is a display.  Well, if that is the case, we can display our devotion any way we like.

Humans are creatures of habit.  What started as a ritual eventually becomes a ceremony.  The worst part is when the ceremony becomes a protocol.  This is further accentuated by taboos.  Major havoc.

I have rituals but I don't particularly commemorate ceremonies.  To me, if it doesn't make sense, just omit it.  Our problem is we tend to romanticize things.  Thus it becomes a culture.

With that, I want to put on record that I am NOT against religion.  I celebrate all religions.  What I don't agree with is when religion becomes a vehicle of hatred and a holier-than-thou attitude.

However, as a whole, I don't agree that you need religion to worship God.  That I am very sure.

So that is my message.  Do not worship God.  Make good the idea that you and God are a pair.

There...  My closing argument.
